This is a pattern I created with two colors of yarn so that it is reversible; one color predominates on one side and the other color predominates on the other. You can make this really big and make a reversible baby blanket. If you don't know if it is going to be a boy or a girl, make it pink on one side and blue on the other. :-) Here are the directions for the hot pad.

Reversible Hot Pad

Materials:
Several ounces Color A
Several ounces Color B
(Note: color B will be the outside border.)
Crochet hook, size H

Row 1: With color A ch 44 (multiple of 6 plus 2), sc in second ch from hook, * ch 7, sk 5 ch, sc in next ch, repeat from * to end. Drop color A, do not turn. Go back to beg of row, with color B attach yarn at first sc with sl st, ch 2, do 5 dc in center st of base ch under first ch 7 loop (first fan completed, keep ch 7 loop in back of fan). Do 5 dc in center st under next ch 7 loop (second fan completed), continue in pattern to end.

Row 2: Continuing with color B, ch 7, turn, sc between first 2 fans, ch 7, sc between next 2 fans, continue in pattern across row ending with sc between last fan and ch 2. Do not turn. Drop color B and pick up color A. Ch 2, sc in side of top of fan, ch 2, do 5 dc in middle ch of ch 7 loop AND back loop of middle dc of fan together, keeping ch 7 loop of second row behind it. Do 5 dc in middle ch of next ch 7 loop AND back loop of middle dc of next fan together. Continue in pattern across row.

Row 3: Continuing with color A, repeat row 2 with opposite colors.

Rows 4-13: Repeat rows 2 and 3.

Row 14: Repeat row 2. End off color A. With color B, ch 2, sc in corner of fan, do not end off.

Border: Across top of row 14 do 6 dc in middle of ch 7 loop AND back loop of middle st of fan together. Repeat across top of row 14, sc in corner. Down the side, do 6 dc in st between first 2 rows, sc in st between next to rows, repeat down the side, sc in corner. Across bottom do 6 dc in base of fan, sc in base between ch 7 loops, repeat across bottom, sc in corner. Work up the last side same as the other side. Sl st in first st of border, end off. Work in loose ends.

Seriously cool pattern! I can't wait to try this. I've always wanted to try out the reversible technique!

I always wanted to try it, too, but never found a pattern, so I had to invent my own. :-)
